7 MAJOR DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BUILDING A NETWORK MARKETING BUSINESS AND HAVING A JOB AS AN EMPLOYEE

1.Your job can not be willed to your children.  You cannot will your office/post to your children as a government or private employee. Even after you have served for 35 years like my Dad and became a Permanent Secretary  or a Vice Chancellor or the CEO of a public company your child cannot still inherit your sweat and many years of hard work. But your position in Network Marketing Organization can be willed to and inherited by your child or a loved one.

2. In Network Marketing you have TIME FREEDOM. You are in control of your time. But as an Employee you're not in control of your time. Your time and consequently, your life is controlled by your employer.

3. As an employee, you must answer and report to your Boss. But in Network Marketing you are YOUR OWN BOSS.

4. In Network Marketing there is NO LIMIT to your earnings. Your earnings is based on your capacity. YOUR NETWORK DETERMINES YOUR NET WORTH i.e you determine what you earn. But as an employee your salary/wage is determined by your employer. There is a LIMIT to what you can earn.

5.In Network Marketing, you put in just FEW YEARS of hard work and continue to get RICHER and RICHER and you work lesser and lesser. But as an employee you continue to work harder and harder till you retire, and your income is reduced drastically after retirement, if at    all it is a pensionable job.

6. Results all over the world has shown that it is easier and faster to become FINANCIALLY FREE in Network Marketing than having a job. Yearly report in America shows that the the 2nd highest number of NEW MILLIONAIRES is from  the Network Marketing  Industry after the Real Estate Industry.

7.As an Employee job security is not guaranteed. But in Network Marketing you determine the size of your network.

World Vets Celebrates 10 Years!

This year marks World Vets 10 year anniversary! For a decade it has been our mission to improve the health and well being of animals by providing veterinary aid and training in developing countries and by providing disaster relief worldwide. As the info-graphic below shows, in this time, we have undertaken 223 projects worldwide serving over 135,000 animals and providing close to 60,000 hours of veterinary training. What’s more, all services and training have been provided at no cost for beneficiaries.
Why do we do what we do? We strongly believe that all animals deserve kindness and compassion, as well as excellent care. As such, we strive to create a world where all animals have access to skilled veterinary care. To achieve this we operate many programs, most notably veterinary field projects which provide direct veterinary care, in addition to our training programs for students and veterinary professionals alike.
Our work not only depends on the generosity of individuals, foundations and public support. We also rely on
volunteers to help us deliver veterinary services and training abroad.Though our programs, we provide countless international
volunteer opportunities for veterinary professionals, students aspiring to this vocation and for the everyday animal lover who simply wants to travel with purpose. Since our inception we have deployed over 4500 volunteers with the mandate to make quality veterinary more accessible.
We graciously thank all of our supporters and dedicated volunteers who have been with us throughout the years. Together we have reached a great milestone! We look forward to continuing our work and having an even greater impact with your help!

Veterinarians Career, Salary and Education Information

What Veterinarians Do
Veterinarians care for the health of animals and work to improve public health. They diagnose, treat, and research medical conditions and diseases of pets, livestock, and other animals.
Duties of Veterinarians
Veterinarians typically do the following:
Examine animals to diagnose their health problems
Treat and dress wounds
Perform surgery on animals
Test for and vaccinate against diseases
Operate medical equipment, such as x-ray machines
Advise animal owners about general care, medical conditions, and treatments
Prescribe medication
Euthanize animals
Veterinarians treat the injuries and illnesses of pets and other animals with a variety of medical equipment, including surgical tools and x-ray and ultrasound machines. They provide treatment for animals that is similar to the services a physician provides to treat humans.
The following are examples of types of veterinarians:
Companion animal veterinarians treat pets and generally work in private clinics and hospitals. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, more than 75 percent of veterinarians who work in private clinical practice treat pets. They most often care for cats and dogs, but also treat other pets, such as birds, ferrets, and rabbits. These veterinarians diagnose and provide treatment for animal health problems, consult with owners of animals about preventive healthcare, and carry out medical and surgical procedures, such as vaccinations, dental work, and setting fractures.
Equine veterinarians work with horses. In 2014, about 6 percent of private practice veterinarians diagnosed and treated horses.
Food animal veterinarians work with farm animals such as pigs, cattle, and sheep, which are raised to be food sources. In 2014, about 7 percent of private practice veterinarians treated food animals. They spend much of their time at farms and ranches treating illnesses and injuries and testing for and vaccinating against disease. They may advise owners or managers about feeding, housing, and general health practices.
Food safety and inspection veterinarians inspect and test livestock and animal products for major animal diseases, provide vaccines to treat animals, enhance animal welfare, conduct research to improve animal health, and enforce government food safety regulations. They design and administer animal and public health programs for the prevention and control of diseases transmissible among animals and between animals and people.
Research veterinarians work in laboratories, conducting clinical research on human and animal health problems. These veterinarians may perform tests on animals to identify the effects of drug therapies, or they may test new surgical techniques. They may also research how to prevent, control, and eliminate food- and animal-borne illnesses and diseases.
Some veterinarians become postsecondary teachers at colleges and universities.
Work Environment for Veterinarians
Veterinarians held about 78,300 jobs in 2014, of which about 74 percent were in the veterinary services industry. Others held positions in federal, state, or local government; animal production, and in colleges and universities. About 1 in 6 veterinarians were self-employed in 2016.
Most veterinarians work in private clinics and hospitals. Others travel to farms, work in laboratories or classrooms, or work for the government.
Veterinarians who treat horses or food animals travel between their offices and farms and ranches. They work outdoors in all kinds of weather and may have to perform surgery, often in remote locations.
Veterinarians who work in food safety and inspection travel to farms, slaughterhouses, and food-processing plants to inspect the health of animals and ensure that safety protocols are being followed by the facility.
Veterinarians who conduct research work primarily in offices and laboratories. They spend much of their time dealing with people, rather than animals.
The work can be emotionally stressful, as veterinarians deal with sick animals and the animals’ anxious owners. Also, the workplace can be noisy, as animals make noise when sick or being handled. Working on farms and ranches, in slaughterhouses, or with wildlife can also be physically demanding.
Injuries and Illnesses
When working with animals that are frightened or in pain, veterinarians risk being bitten, kicked, and scratched. In addition, veterinarians working with diseased animals risk being infected by the disease.
Veterinarian Work Schedules
Veterinarians often work additional hours. Some work nights or weekends, and they may have to respond to emergencies outside of scheduled work hours.
How to Become a Veterinarian
Get the education you need: Find schools for Veterinarians near you!
Veterinarians must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited veterinary college and a state license.
Veterinarian Education
Veterinarians must complete a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M. or V.M.D.) degree at an accredited college of veterinary medicine. There are currently 30 colleges with accredited programs in the United States. A veterinary medicine program generally takes 4 years to complete and includes classroom, laboratory, and clinical components.
Although not required, most applicants to veterinary school have a bachelor’s degree. Veterinary medical colleges typically require applicants to have taken many science classes, including biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, zoology, microbiology, and animal science. Most programs also require math, humanities, and social science courses.
Admission to veterinary programs is competitive, and less than half of all applicants were accepted in 2014.
In veterinary medicine programs, students take courses on animal anatomy and physiology, as well as disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Most programs include 3 years of classroom, laboratory, and clinical work. Students typically spend the final year of the 4-year program doing clinical rotations in a veterinary medical center or hospital.
Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations
Veterinarians must be licensed in order to practice in the United States. Licensing requirements vary by state, but all states require prospective veterinarians to complete an accredited veterinary program and to pass the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination. Veterinarians working for the state or federal government may not be required to have a state license, because each agency has different requirements.
Most states not only require the national exam but also have a state exam that covers state laws and regulations. Few states accept licenses from other states, so veterinarians who want to be licensed in another state usually must take that state’s exam.
The American Veterinary Medical Association offers certification in 40 specialties, such as surgery, microbiology, and internal medicine. Although certification is not required for veterinarians, it can show exceptional skill and expertise in a particular field. To sit for a specialty certification exam, veterinarians must have a certain number of years of experience in the field, complete additional education, and complete a residency program, typically lasting 3 to 4 years. Requirements vary by specialty.
Other Experience
Some veterinary medical colleges weigh experience heavily during the admissions process. Formal experience, such as previous work with veterinarians or scientists in clinics, agribusiness, research, or some area of health science, is particularly advantageous. Less formal experience, such as working with animals on a farm, at a stable, or in an animal shelter, can also be helpful.
Although graduates of a veterinary program can begin practicing once they receive their license, some veterinarians pursue further education and training. Some new veterinary graduates enter internship or residency programs to gain specialized experience.
Important Qualities for Veterinarians
Compassion. Veterinarians must be compassionate when working with animals and their owners. They must treat animals with kindness and respect, and must be sensitive when dealing with the animal owners.
Communication skills. Strong communication skills are essential for veterinarians, who must be able to discuss their recommendations and explain treatment options to animal owners and give instructions to their staff.
Decisionmaking skills. Veterinarians must decide the correct method for treating the injuries and illnesses of animals. For instance, deciding to euthanize a sick animal can be difficult.
Management skills. Management skills are important for veterinarians who manage private clinics or laboratories, or direct teams of technicians or inspectors. In these settings, they are responsible for providing direction, delegating work, and overseeing daily operations.
Manual dexterity. Manual dexterity is important for veterinarians, because they must control their hand movements and be precise when treating injuries and performing surgery.
Problem-solving skills. Veterinarians need strong problem-solving skills because they must figure out what is ailing animals. Those who test animals to determine the effects of drug therapies also need excellent diagnostic skills.
Would a career as a Veterinarian be a good fit for you? Take our Career Test to find out.
Veterinarian Salaries
The median annual wage for veterinarians was $88,490 in May 2015. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $53,210, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $158,260.
Veterinarians often work additional hours. Some work nights or weekends, and they may have to respond to emergencies outside of scheduled work hours.
Job Outlook for Veterinarians
Employment of veterinarians is projected to grow 9 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. Veterinarians will continue to be needed to diagnose and treat animals.
Veterinary medicine has advanced considerably. Veterinarians are able to offer more services today that are comparable to healthcare for humans, including more complicated procedures like cancer treatments and kidney transplants.
There also will be employment growth in areas such as food and animal safety, where organizations work to prevent foodborne contaminations and diseases in animals; public health, where organizations work to protect the health of an entire population; and disease control. Veterinarians will continue to be needed to inspect the food supply and to ensure animal and human health.
Veterinarians Job Prospects
Candidates can expect competition for most veterinarian positions. Job seekers with a specialization and prior work experience should have the best job opportunities.
The number of new graduates from veterinary schools has increased to roughly 3,000 per year, resulting in greater competition for jobs than in recent years. Additionally, most veterinary graduates are attracted to companion animal care, so there will be fewer job opportunities in that field.
Job opportunities in farm animal care will be better, because fewer veterinarians compete to work on large animals. Also, there will be some job opportunities available in the federal government in food safety, animal health, and public health. Job opportunities will also become available as veterinarians retire opening up positions for new veterinarians.
Veterinary schools also train veterinarians for positions in other fields, such as public health, disease control, corporate sales, and population studies. With potentially fewer opportunities in companion animal care, many graduating veterinarians will likely have

better job prospects in these areas

Reasons Why Most Nigerians Fail In Poultry Farming Business

The tendency of the average Nigerian investor is to set up a business on a foundation beyond his experience because he sees others doing it. He starts a poultry farm as a large investment of capital and stock which will require immense amounts of energy and funds to maintain which may be beyond his capability.
Some inexperienced investors have set up, misled by fantastic statistics which make them believe that poultry business is the quickest route to become a millionaire overnight. For example, i saw a thread at nairaland.com where a poultry promoter gave the impression that one can invest N500,000.00 in poultry and reap N5million in a year. This statistics is a deceit, misleading and an IMPOSSIBILITY in the present day Nigeria. Some starters rely on dubious statistics generated by some arm chair consultant. Some are attracted by the earning potentialities but give no thought to the other side of the coin.
Nigerians are enthusiastic about poultry farming and many are going into it. This is good news and this blog supports them by giving valuable insights usually overlooked or neglected but which are essential to success in the business. One mistake being made by many inexperienced starters is working out unrealistic profit expectations on paper. One needs to understand the factors or situations that makes realistic profit expectation realizable in poultry farming to be able to make a realistic income forecast.
The best advice is to start modestly on a small scale and in the process of managing it,the owner will be able to know how much can be made from the business. This was the advice given to a client who purchased some of the poultry reports on this blog.He has a large plot of land at Ibadan and was ready to set up a big farm based on the availability of funds.
He was advised to start with a small farm and from his experience would be able to decide later how to expand. He bought the suggestion and has set up a smaller farm. This way, experience can be gained without having to pay high prices for it as in a large first investment. That is the best way for an inexperienced starter to start a poultry farm.
If you are a green horn and have the financial capability to rear 5000 birds, you may start with 1000 in the first cycle.Based on experience and profits gained, increase the stock gradually, say every 6-12 months until the planned maximum capacity is achieved. You can use the profits earned in one cycle to commence another cycle. In my own opinion,it is not wise for a starter, a green horn to put in all the capital at once on a 5000 bird farm. You may go ahead anyway if you have adequate financial reserves to fall back on, have the right logistics in place and have the capacity for risk.
Many Nigerians are always in a haste to become owners of big businesses from inception. One Nigerian who got my poultry reports and sought my counsel, who had access to borrowed funds or a grant from an uncle wanted to set up a 2000 layer farm, a piggery and a fish farm all at once.He is a starter who has zero experience and no knowledge in all the three areas. My suggestion was that he set up one, master it before setting up another line.He was ready to invest the whole capital on the 3 areas at once. To me, it is too foolish a risk to take with borrowed funds without other reserves to fall back on.
There are some who have the money to invest in the business but do not have the time. They may have very limited or no poultry training and/or experience and their success in the business is tied to their ability to engage someone as manager to supervise the farm. The manager must be a trained, experienced and capable person who has the personality suited for the work. The personality requirements suited for the work include mental and physical abilities.
The personality requirements essential to success in poultry farming, expected of a hired employee manager include:
-Personal liking for the business
-Attention to details as the business is largely composed of details
-Ability to create your own system for the work, not to be tossed about by many.Stick to one.
-Ability to deploy common sense to take quick & correct decisions when necessary to avert disaster
Energy and Promptness
-Ability to concentrate time and attention on the work to ensure that no detail is neglected.
There are several other personality requirements but if your farm manager lacks the essentials stated above,it is clear that you may have placed your farm in the wrong hands.

Pets Get Obituary Space In Singaporean Newspaper

They are known for lavishing care in life on their animals ; soon grieving pet owners in Singapore , will have a chance to share their feelings about furred family members after they pad off to the great beyond – via obituaries in the city -state’ s largest newspaper.
From Sunday , The Straits Times pets section will let pet owners publish goodbye messages to their favourite non -human companions along with an accompanying photo .
The memorials will be part of a “ pets ’ corner ” in the paper ’ s classifieds section , along with notices by the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ) and other animal groups about pets available for adoption .
The decision to market obituaries to pet owners in tiny Singapore , one of the world ’s richest countries in terms of per capita income , comes as wealthy Asians have fewer kids and shower more attention on pets .
Though dogs and cats once roamed free around neighbourhoods in Singapore , pet owners today are extremely protective of their pets . In addition , the 80 per cent of the population that lives in government -run flats is restricted to just one dog , of a small breed .
Research firm Euromonitor , in a recent report on Singapore ’s pet care market , said people are spending more on premium pet food as well as accessories such as strollers for dogs and designer pet clothing .
“ Many pet owners are increasingly treating their pets as household members and are therefore pampering their pets with luxurious food , products and services , just as they would dote on their family , ” it said .
“ This trend led to a shift in consumer spending towards premium categories, such as premium pet food , hence driving growth in the pet care market .”
Needless to say , the obituaries too are not free – they will each run S $ 50 ( $ 40 . 96 , N6 ,449 ), with a goods and services tax of 7 percent on top of that .
Veterinary doctors ! Aren’t you guys going to relocate to Singapore now to go start charging thousands of dollars for pet check - ups ?

About MLM... Bible quote

"What does the Bible say about MLM (multi-level marketing)?"
Answer: The Bible does not address multi-level marketing specifically, but it does give some principles regarding providing goods or services in general and our involvement in them. MLM companies have been a frequent subject of controversy and lawsuits because of their similarity to illegal pyramid schemes, price-fixing of their goods and services, high initial start-up costs, emphasis on recruitment of lower-tiered salespeople over actual sales, requiring associates to purchase and use the company’s products, frustratingly complex compensation schemes, and the cult-like techniques that some groups use to “hook” and keep those in lower tiers.
There is nothing illegal about most MLM companies, but are they a good fit for a Christian? Both spiritually and physically, God gifts us with abilities. He also intends for us to use all of our abilities on behalf of others, not solely for our own gain ( Acts 20:35 ). We are also told to “consider others better than yourselves (Philippians 2:3 ). This focus on serving others, seen in Christ Himself, is reflected in the frequent use of the word give and is a general principle of Scripture. The contrast to a focus on giving is a focus on getting, also called “greed” or “covetousness.” As Christians, our life focus on giving should also be reflected in our chosen occupation in which we seek to give to others through our work. It is true that our employers should reasonably compensate us for our labor ( Luke 10:7 ), but our primary focus should not be on what we receive.
There is another principle found in Scripture that applies: you can know a tree by its fruit. While this principle specifically concerns being able to identify false teachers (Matthew 12:33 ), its application extends beyond that. According to one business teacher who has spent a good deal of time researching 350 MLM companies, over 90 percent of the people who become involved with MLM companies end up leaving those companies in just a few years. He also found that, on average, 99 percent of those involved with MLM companies end up losing money (see www.mlm-thetruth.com). These statistics alone say something about a company that uses the multi-level marketing technique as its primary way of selling its product.
As with any business/financial venture, the Christian’s first responsibility is to obey the Lord’s command that we love one another (John 13:34 ) and Paul’s admonition to “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves” (Philippians 2:3 ). Seen from that perspective, for the Christian, MLM would seem to be a less-than-ideal enterprise.

Reasons veterinarians need a vacation

VETERINARY ECONOMICS

The end of summer will be here before you know it, and if you haven’t taken a vacation yet—or even considered it—here are a few reasons to seek a much-needed solace from work, courtesy of Summit Veterinary Advisors.
1. You need time away from work. It's important that everyone in the hospital—from the practice owner to the receptionist—has time away from work. Not only does a break from the daily grind have physical and mental benefits, but it also gives you physical and psychological distance from the practice. The less you and your employees think about work, the more productive and enthusiastic you’ll be when you get back.
2. Reduce or prevent burnout. Anyone who feels overworked and undervalued is at risk for burnout and the symptoms are easy to spot: irritability, lack of interest, trouble concentrating, or feelings of frustration or resentment. Vacations can put you and your staff in a more positive frame of mind and keep burnout at bay.
3. Identify training needs. Every practice has someone with a special knack for fixing that troublesome piece of lab equipment or somebody who knows which plumber is the best one to call. But when that person’s gone, what happens? Even the most detailed procedures manual doesn't cover every situation, and you won't know if the procedure is documented correctly until someone who has never done it before needs to do it in a pinch.
4. Give your staff a break—from you. Working for a tense, cranky boss gets old after a while, so do your employees a favor and take a vacation. An added benefit is that your staff may have a renewed appreciation for you after spending a week short-staffed or with a relief doctor who doesn't know the ins and outs of your hospital.

New test can diagnose emerging strains of canine parvovirus

The Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory has developed a diagnostic test that can detect emerging strains of canine parvovirus, a severe -- and potentially fatal -- virus that affects dogs. Credit: Kansas State University Photo Services
A new test developed at the Kansas State University Diagnostic Laboratory is leading to earlier detection of a severe —- and potentially fatal—virus that affects dogs, especially puppies.
Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious worldwide disease that involves both domestic and wild canines. It can be fatal in immunocompromised dogs or puppies that have not yet been vaccinated, said Richard Oberst, professor of diagnostic medicine and director of the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory in the Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
The molecular diagnostics team has developed a newer, more effective test that can detect an emerging 2c strain of the virus while simultaneously detecting existing 2a and 2b strains.
"Canine parvovirus is a very severe disease," Oberst said. "Usually dogs who have canine parvovirus are already immune suppressed, not only because of their young age and having immature immune systems, but also because of having intestinal parasites."
Canine parvovirus causes hemorrhagic enteritis resulting in bloody diarrhea several days after exposure to the virus. It spreads from dog to dog through contact with feces. The virus infects lymphocytes and causes immune suppression, Oberst said, but it also can cause dogs to bleed to death through their intestines.
A major worldwide parvovirus outbreak occurred in the 1970s and involved a pathogenic form of the virus that killed many dogs. Since the 1970s, the virus has evolved into the type 2a and type 2b strains found around the world, Oberst said. A type 2c has recently emerged, too.
"While parvovirus doesn't seem to be causing quite the same widespread outbreaks that we saw in the 1970s, a lot of dogs are still infected and coming down with the disease," Oberst said.
Often, survival rates depend on how quickly and accurately the virus is detected. Commercial tests for veterinarians are not as effective at detecting newer strains of the 2c virus, Oberst said, and have resulted in some false negative results.
Jianfa Bai, assistant professor of diagnostic medicine, and collaborators at the Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory developed a real-time polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, test to detect the 2c virus strain and the 2a and 2b strains. While the diagnostic laboratory has been able to test for the 2a and 2b strains for years, the new test extends the laboratory's capabilities to quickly and accurately detect canine parvovirus.
"With this test we can now test all strains simultaneously and differentiate which strains of the virus might actually be causing the infection," Oberst said. "That's a unique aspect to this test."
While canine parvovirus is a severe disease, the good news for dog owners is that the disease is preventable through vaccinations, Oberst said. Getting a dog in a vaccination program as soon as possible is the best way to prevent spreading the virus.
"It's totally preventable if the dogs are immune competent and have gotten into a vaccine program at an early age before they can become exposed to the virus," Oberst said. "That's why getting dogs vaccinated and getting their immune systems ready for exposure to parvovirus is very important."
Young dogs—usually 6-16 weeks old—are more likely to show symptoms, Oberst said, because they have not yet been vaccinated or are immunocompromised. Parvovirus symptoms among dogs include fever, bloody diarrhea or lethargy.
If pet owners suspect their dog has canine parvovirus, they should talk with their veterinarian, Oberst said. He recommends that pet owners separate the dog from healthy dogs so that the virus doesn't spread. He also recommends using bleach to disinfect surfaces of which the parvovirus-infected dog may have come into contact.
While the virus does not infect humans, the researchers are seeing that parvovirus can infect cats, but not necessarily with the severe clinical problems found in dogs . Oberst said further studies are needed to learn more about the feline strain.

Three naked women are hiding in this amazing painting of a wolf - can you spot them?

At first glance, this painting of a wolf looks like a skilful work of art - but when you realise how it's been made, you won't believe it.
The illusion is actually the work of body painter Johannes Stoetters who has created a work of art from three naked women.
The clever positioning of his models once they have been painted can be seen from the video which shows how he creates the incredible animal artwork.
At first glance it looks like a great painting of a wolf sitting down with its head tilted back, howling at the moon, but on closer inspection a keen eye can make out it's actually three intertwined bodies.
The 38-year-old Italian artist spent several days painstakingly sketching and testing how he would pose the models to create a realistic shape.
A talented bodypainter's latest trick of the eye is a howling success - transforming three naked women into a majestic wolf
The piece was one of the longest and most difficult he has created, needing three position tests and a gruelling eight-hour painting session and shoot.
In the stunning finished piece, one naked woman makes the wolf's front leg, throat and head - with her elbow bent over the top to create the snout and her other hand making the bottom jaw.
Another of the models forms the tail and back, and the third is the belly and hind leg, with their heads and faces expertly blended into the body of the wolf.

Opportunity & Responsibility

Why Every Small Business Needs a Backup and Disaster Recovery Plan

As a digitally active business in 2016, you can’t afford to lose your data. Whether at the hands of a natural disaster, human error, or cyber attack, data loss is costly and extremely risky. That’s why you need a backup and disaster recovery solution.
What is BDR?
As a small business owner, you’ve probably asked yourself this simple question at least once: “What is BDR?” Well, the most basic definition is a combination of data backup and disaster recovery solutions that are designed to work together to ensure uptime, diminish data loss, and maximize productivity in the midst of an attack, natural disaster, or other compromising situation. In other words, BDR solutions keep businesses safe when trouble strikes.
Related: 5 Steps for Managing Disaster Recovery for Your Business
According to research by Security Week, the total volume of data loss at the enterprise level has increased more than 400 percent over the past couple of years and the trend doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon. With the rise of big data, cloud computing, and BYOD policies in the workplace, it’s becoming increasingly challenging for businesses to protect their private data.
IT Web suggests that the total cost of data breaches will be more than $2.1 trillion by 2019. This is in part due to the fact that small businesses don’t always take security seriously. They wrongly assume that it’s the big corporations that face the highest risks. Unfortunately, this is a false assumption.
A Verizon report says that small data breaches -- those with fewer than 100 files lost -- cost between $18,120 and $35,730. Unless these are expenses that you can easily sustain, it’s time to implement a BDR plan.
Related: Don't Wait for a Disaster to Interrupt Business. Prepare Now
Five reasons why SBOs need a BDR plan.
When small businesses don’t have a BDR solution/plan in place, it’s typically because they’re unclear about the true value of BDR.
Let’s review some of the top benefits to give you an idea of why these solutions are so important to the health of your small business.
1. Protects against effects of natural disasters. Whether it’s a flood, earthquake, hurricane, blizzard, or other extreme natural disaster, there are plenty of uncontrollable circumstances that can cause your business to experience downtime. And, according to the National Archives and Records Administration,
more than 90 percent of companies that experience at least seven days of data center downtime go out of business within a year. Let that sink in. While a BDR plan won’t prevent a natural disaster from occurring, it will protect your data and ensure that downtime doesn’t compromise your company.
2. Lessens impact of cyber attacks. As more and more data is moved online, cyber criminals are increasing their efforts and focusing on businesses that they believe are unprotected. In most cases, this means small businesses that appear vulnerable. Once again, a BDR plan can limit the impact of an attack and can prevent your business from losing valuable data.
3. Keeps client data safe. Do you store a lot of confidential client or customer data? If so, you can’t afford to lose this data or let it slip into the wrong hands. A BDR plan ensures that all of this information is properly stored and controlled. As a result, you don’t have to worry about damaging your brand reputation, should an unforeseeable incident arise.
4. People make mistakes. While natural disasters and cyber attacks are discussed more than anything else, the reality is that your own employees are sometimes responsible for the biggest data losses. Mistakes happen and a single poor choice can end up compromising data. That’s why it’s so important for businesses not only to train employees properly, but also invest in backup solutions.
5. Systems fail. Finally, we all know that hardware, machines, and other systems fail. Regardless of how much you spend on your technology, no solution is perfect. Even systems that come with 99.9 percent uptime guarantees will falter every once in a while. As such, businesses must invest in robust BDR plans that account for all of these risks.
What to look for in a BDR solution.
Once you determine that your business needs a BDR plan in place, how do you find the right solution? While every business is different, start by analyzing the following:
Hardware compatibility. Depending on the hardware that your business uses, you may need a BDR solution that’s specifically tailored to your current setup. Keep this in mind as you compare options.
Scalable pricing. As your business grows over time, you’re going to collect and store more data. A flexible pricing model will allow you cost-effectively to scale according to your demands.
Around-the-clock support. You never know when disaster will strike. Make sure that your BDR vendor has 24/7/365 technical support available.
Strong reputation. Finally, it’s important to consider the BDR solution’s reputation. How long has it been on the market? What do customers say? The answers to these questions will tell you a lot.
If you can find a BDR solution that meets these four criteria, then you’ve probably found the right solution for your business.

Protect your business.
Nobody wants to assume that something bad is going to happen to their business – and hopefully you’ll never be exposed to any of the risks highlighted in this article – but the harsh reality is that you’ll likely face one of these issues at some point in the future.
There’s no way to prevent a cyber attack, natural disaster, technical malfunction or uncontrollable human error, but you can protect your business from costly data loss by investing in a solution that aids in data backup and disaster recovery. Frankly, it’s unwise to wait any longer.

Rare human disease found in dogs

A rare, severe form of pulmonary hypertension, which up until now, has only been classified as a human lung disease, has also been discovered in dogs according to a Michigan State University study.
"Our research is the first to document the existence of pulmonary veno-occlusive disease, or PVOD, in dogs," said Kurt Williams, the lead author of the study and an expert in respiratory pathology in MSU's College of Veterinary Medicine. "PVOD is considered one of the most severe forms of pulmonary hypertension."
The study is published in the journal Veterinary Pathology logy.
The number of pulmonary hypertension, or PH, cases reported in the United States is low, affecting 15 to 50 people per million each year. PVOD is diagnosed in only about 10 percent of PH cases where no other cause of the disease has been determined. Unfortunately, there are very few effective treatment options for PVOD and a lung transplant often becomes the best choice.
"PVOD might be more common in dogs than in people, but this has yet to be determined and needs to be looked at further," Williams said.
Pulmonary hypertension develops because of abnormal blood vessels in the lungs, which makes it harder for the heart to push blood through and provide oxygen to the rest of the body. In cases of PVOD, the small veins in the lungs become blocked, increasing pressure in these blood vessels, and ultimately causing heart failure.
"The same process happens in canines," Williams said. "These dogs also come in with similar symptoms as humans, yet because subtle changes in health may not be recognized as quickly in dogs, death can occur quickly once the animal is seen by a veterinarian."
Symptoms include cough, increased rate of breathing, respiratory distress, loss of appetite and chronic fatigue. Fatal progression of the disease in humans can last up to two years.
"PVOD is a poorly understood disease not just because it's so rare, but also because there've been no other animals known to have the disease," Williams said. "Our finding changes things."
Williams said that the discovery could be important for human medicine because the canine disease may serve as a model for human PVOD.
"It's cases like this that help to remind us how important veterinary medicine is to medicine in general," he said. "Our colleagues in the human medical community are becoming much more aware of the many diseases shared by our respective patients and how together we can learn from each other."

3 Ways the Be-Everywhere Strategy Leads You Nowhere
When you first begin your journey as an online entrepreneur, you are quickly introduced to a number of experts, gurus and even a few ninjas. All of them offering actionable advice for those trying to succeed in their quest of pursuing the work they love.
You find yourself quickly soaking up all you can from the multitude of podcasts, blogs, and free eBooks -- listening and reading voraciously as your thoughts dance with possibility.
But then you come across two very powerful, yet dangerous, words.
These two words form the basis of much of the guru teachings and remain one of the most repeated strategies recommended for online entrepreneurs today.
“Be Everywhere."
This simple mantra means if you want to build your audience, and truly make an impact in the world, you have to literally be everywhere.
You should have a blog, launch a podcast, self-publish eBooks, create a course, guest post, create YouTube videos, and of course, be omnipresent on as many social media platforms as possible, including Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn, Snapchat…you get the idea.
While the two words, “be everywhere”, seem innocent enough, they may actually wreak havoc on your blossoming online business.
Here are three ways the Be Everywhere strategy actually leads you nowhere.
Related: Top 20 Social-Media Tools to Add to Your Arsenal in 2016
1. Leads you down multiple rabbit holes.
As a participant in the online business space, you have no doubt witnessed the rise (and fall) of various social media platforms and tools.
Each of these promises a new way to accomplish common tasks or mechanisms to ultimately grow your audience. You believe as part of the Be Everywhere strategy that you need to not only explore each of these platforms but you actually need to be an influencer on each.
You quickly get caught up in a game of whack-a-mole as each month seems to bring a new platform or player.
You jumped on the Vine bandwagon because simply everyone else was.
You heard you needed to start a podcast, so you did.
You heard about blab.im and figured that is where you needed to take your message.
You see everyone with a Snapchat image as their Facebook profile pic and you head over to Snapchat to join the herd.
Just as you start to exhale and absorb your fragile success, you see a status message from someone on Facebook that says, “Hey, are you on Anchor yet? Let’s connect."
Being everywhere literally takes you down so many paths that you often find yourself dazed and confused.
Each platform requires a learning curve. Each requires time and effort to determine exactly how you can leverage it. Each requires you to start anew in audience building and content creation.
And here’s the real kicker. Each ultimately drives you away from doing the work that truly matters in growing your business.
Instead of dominating distinct channels, you are distracted and disillusioned with unknown opportunity. You are pulled in so many directions that you actually neglect the work that will drive your business forward.
I’m not advocating for burying your head in Facebook and never exploring new and exciting platforms. You just need to be realistic when it comes to thinking you can effectively leverage each and every platform that comes along.
Instead of immersing yourself with every bright shiny object, do some preliminary research and determine if the platform fits with your business’ goals and objectives. Determine which channels make the most sense for you and your brand and then dominate in a smaller more focused space.

2. Wastes your most valuable commodity.
Entrepreneurs are busy people. It’s true.Have you ever met a self-proclaimed entrepreneur who wasn’t bearing the burden of an ever-growing to-do list?
The maddening reality is with everything you have to get done, one thing stays consistent: time taunts you every step of the way.
It has never been more important than now to capitalize on the time you can actually find, and with that comes the need to prioritize. Your priority should be set on doing the work that moves you closer to accomplishing your goals in life and business.
Chasing the latest social media platform should be assigned a priority just like any other new task that pops up in front of you. Analyze the function and utility of the platform and then determine if it directly fits your business vision. Understand if it would align with your intended audience and then figure out if you have the personal bandwidth to even attempt to engage.

3. Being everywhere means you are nowhere fully.
When you are everywhere, you are probably nowhere for a long period of time. As a result, you lack the ability to grow and foster real relationships with your audience.
Bouncing in and out of platforms all day, or even worse becoming overly reliant on automation, actually damages your online reputation. It dilutes your brand and results in audience confusion and frustration.
Your message becomes fragmented and your community no longer knows when or where to expect your participation.
It’s much better to be a valued participant in a few select online communities than to be a part-time purveyor of occasional interaction across all.
Find the platforms that not only fit with your message but also where your audience hangs out. Then fully embed yourself in that platform and embrace as one of your core tools for driving traffic back to your website.
Today’s hyper-competitive market demands you be more than a one-trick pony. However, trying to master all will result in utilizing none to your advantage. Take inventory of your current online platform, analyze which provides the most value to your business, then set the rest aside for occasional engagement. Only when you achieve a focused approach will you truly start to see the benefits of being anywhere.

10 Expert Tips on Managing Cash Flow as a New Business
New startups should fully understand that running out of money is one of the primary reasons that businesses fold shortly after a launch. This scenario is a proven statistic, but startups can avoid joining the ranks of failed businesses by being smart about how they spend their startup capital.
Related: 3 Rules About Cash Flow That First-Time Business Owners Need to Know
And that's crucial: Trying to run a business without carefully managing cash flow is like trying to paddle upstream without an oar: you’re not likely to make it to your destination. Even if you do, you’ll be so exhausted you won’t have the strength to go on.
So, instead, take steps to ensure your business will be healthier. Make sure you're rowing in the direction of profit by following these 10 tips on how to manage your startup’s money.
1. Know when you’ll break even.
Knowing the point at which you’ll break even won’t necessarily impact your cash flow, but it will give you goals to strive for and a ready-made target for forecasting where your cash should go in order to reach that goal.
If you focus on that goal, and the milestones you have to hit to reach the break-even point, you’ll be smarter about how you spend your startup capital along the way, and will budget accordingly.
As Tony Hsieh , founder of Zappos, says, “Chase the vision, not the money. The money will end up following you.”
2. Keep your eye on cash-flow management.
You need to avoid focusing too heavily on profit. While that may sound like a contradiction to my first point, it’s far from it. You look at your profit and break-even point in order to set benchmarks -- but you still need to maintain focus on cash-flow and spending. That doesn’t change just because you cross over into profitability.
“Every month isn’t enough,” says Derek Flanzraich of Greatist. “Nearly every week I’m checking both my personal and business finances.”
Related: Why Your Business Needs Cash-Flow Yoga
3. Always maintain a cash reserve.
Every startup should expect shortfalls. They happen to everyone, even with the best plans in place. But your survival likely will depend on how you traverse those shortfalls. Having cash reserves for those lean times lessens the blow, the stress and the distractions, and allows you to stay focused on growing your business.
4. Manage funds better.
Unless you absolutely have to (which is rare), you shouldn’t handle the money for your business. That includes tracking it and handling your accounting. Hire an accountant or CFO to tackle this task for you. If you can’t bring on the extra help, designate a trusted employee to be a cash-flow monitor.
You can simplify this process by using a service and software platform like InDinero.com , which provides accounting software to make cash management easier. The service also provides access to accountants, CPAs and tax specialists who will work diligently to help your company grow. Having access to tax specialists is especially important to your cash flow, since they’ll make sure you stay on track with deadline dates for filing your business tax returns , to avoid penalties and interest.
5. Collect receivables immediately.
Try to make any invoices “due immediately” and limit the use of net terms longer than 15 days. If you can do so, delegate the task of keeping an eye on receivables and customer follow-up to get money in as quickly as possible.
6. Offer discounts to collect payments earlier.
If you don’t want to wait for normal net terms to pay out, then offer your customers a discount if they pay early. If employees are dealing with collections, then make sure you have guidelines that state their eligibility for discounts; and then enforce those standards strictly.
7. Extend payables where you can.
While you want to bring payments in as quickly as possible, work with your suppliers and vendors to get the best deal you can and extend payables to net 60 or more, if possible.
8. Spend only on essentials.
Part of your forecasting model should give you a strong view of the necessary expenses that are coming down the pipe. Outside of the most essential purchases, you want to minimize spending and eliminate costs that aren’t essential to your operation until you’re profitable.
9. Be smart about hiring.
I often see advice in this area that says something like, “Don’t hire until you absolutely need to.” That’s fair advice to a point, but I’m more apt to recommend smart hiring. If you can recruit top talent, a highly skilled worker is likely to be able to tackle the work of two or more mediocre employees.
You’ll probably spend a little more in salary or benefits to get that top talent, but that amount is still bound to be less than you’d spend on multiple employees covering the same task who make more frequent mistakes.
Another outcome is that they may quit on you, forcing you to start over. According to the University of California-Berkeley’s Institute for Research on Labor and Employment, it costs an average $4,000 to hire an employee. So, be smart about whom you recruit if you must hire someone.
“The secret to successful hiring is this," says Marc Benioff , CEO of Salesforce. "Look for the people who want to change the world,”
10. Make the best use of technology.
Always back up your files and cash-flow spreadsheets, to secure cloud storage . Not only will this keep your data secure from local file corruption or data loss/theft, but it will also make it easier for you to gain access from anywhere you have an Internet connection.

6 Qualities of Successful People
1. They are ambitious.
They see themselves capable of being the best. They see themselves with the capacity of being really good at what they do.
This was a really big thought for me. It held me back for many years. When I saw people who were doing better than I was, I naturally assumed they were better than I was. And if they were better than I was, then I must be worse than them. So that would mean they were superior and I was inferior.

That’s a big problem in our society—we have
feelings of inferiority , and these feelings of inferiority are often translated into feelings of undeservedness. The word “deserve” comes from two Latin words meaning “from service.” You deserve 100 percent of everything you make and enjoy as long as you get it from serving other people. If you serve better and serve more and serve at a higher level and serve more enthusiastically and serve a higher quality, then you’ll have a wonderful income—and you’ll deserve every penny of it.
You just must see yourself capable of being the best .
2. They are courageous.
Successful people work to confront the fears that hold most people back. The two biggest enemies to our success are fear and doubt.
When you do something repeatedly, you develop a habit. Make a habit throughout your life of doing the things that scare you. If you do the thing you fear, the death of fear is certain.
So face your fear. The ability to confront your fear is the mark of the superior person. If you have high ambition and you decide to be at the top, and you can confront your fears and do the things that are holding you back, those two things alone will make you a great success.
3. They are committed.
The top people in every field are completely committed. They believe in themselves; they believe in their companies; they believe in their products and services; they believe in their customers. They have an intense belief .
We know that there is a one-to-one relationship between the depth of your belief and what happens in your reality. And if you absolutely believe in the rightness and the goodness of what you’re doing, you become like a catalyst. You create what is called a transfer, like an electrical transfer of enthusiasm.
People who are not committed to what they do lead very empty lives. Caring is a critical element in life—all men and women who enjoy great lives care about what they do. They have passion about what they do. They love what they do.

4. They are prepared.
Successful people review every detail in advance. They do things that the average person is not willing to do. They make sacrifices the average person is not willing to make. But the difference it makes is extraordinary.
Before you go into a meeting, do your homework. Before you give a speech , research the information and practice your talking points. Dive in deep to review every detail of every situation before you take it on.
Successful people are more concerned about pleasing results than they are about pleasing methods. There is nothing more complimentary to your team, your client, your audience than the feeling that you have thoughtfully prepared.
5. They are continuous learners.
High achievers recognize that if they’re not continually getting better, they’re getting worse. They read, they listen to CDs and they take additional training. The professional never stops learning. So read, listen to CDs and take continuous training.
Never stop learning.
6. They are responsible.
The top people in our society have an attitude of self-employment. That’s essential, because 100 percent of us are self-employed—we are presidents of our own personal services corporation. You work for yourself, and the biggest mistake we can ever make is to think we work for anyone else. The person who signs our paycheck may change, our jobs may change, but we are always the same. We are the one constant.
The fact of the matter is that this is not optional—it is mandatory. You’re the president of your own career, your own life, your own finances, your own body, your own family, your own health. You are totally responsible.
We have to be responsible. No one will ever do it for us. It’s the most liberating and exhilarating thought of all, to think, to realize, that you’re the president of your own life.
